Kaleidoscope Information Services, Inc. provides hosting services exclusively for Dialogs websites through our Dialogs Professional Services. As the publisher of Dialogs, Kaleidoscope knows the platform intimately and has optimized every hosting parameter for security, reliability, and performance. Hosting services include:

  • space on a Dialogs optimized server
  • a private IP address
  • a domain-specific SSL certificate for control panel access and ecommerce (extended validation certs optional)
  • nightly back-ups, local and off-site
  • gigabit ethernet connectivity from four internet providers with diverse entrances for best path
  • 24/7/365 on-site technical staff
  • independent PowerWare and Liebert systems for true redundancy
  • entire facility protected by back-up generators and uninterrupted power supply units.

Hosting terms.

Hosting contracts are for a term of one year (twelve months) beginning on the date that Dialogs is installed on the Kaleidoscope server.

Web hosting equipment and facilities.

Kaleidoscope owns the Dell, HP, and Cisco branded servers, firewalls, and switches that serve and protect our applications. Kaleidoscope administrators monitor server load levels and are qualified to tweak web and database servers for optimal performance. Kaleidoscope equipment is secured in a state-of-the-art data center in Dallas, Texas. The secure data center is manned 24/7 and provides redundant power, HVAC, and fire suppression. Connectivity is fully meshed and redundant with multiple backbone providers. Kaleidoscope staff monitor equipment and manage all server provisioning and maintenance. Kaleidoscope web hosting is only available for Dialogs-powered sites.

Data storage and transfer specifications.

Basic web hosting includes 1.0 GB of storage, nightly backup all data, and 5.0 GB of data transfer per month. Our experience has shown that most websites operate under these limitations. The base installation of Dialogs, before customization or content entry, is 5.3 MB (files) + 794 KB (database) = about 6 MB.

Some websites require large amounts of storage or generate high volumes of data transfer. Additional storage space and/or data transfer capacity can be added for additional fees.

Dialogs foreign server installation.

Dialogs is professionally installed on Kaleidoscope servers at no charge. There is an installation fee to install Dialogs on any non-Kaleidoscope server.

Dialogs hosting requirements.

Dialogs can run in most LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) environments. The Dialogs installer detects subtle differences in hosting environments and makes many adjustments automatically. Additional adjustments by someone familiar with Linux and PHP may be necessary in some instances. We’ve tested in Ensim, Plesk, and C-Panel virtual setups. All accommodate Dialogs with varying adjustments. Dialogs is a state-of-the art, web 2.0 application that may not run effectively on servers at commodity web hosting providers.

Recommended environment:

  • CentOS Linux Operating System version 5 (other Linux distros work with path adjustments)
  • MySQL version 5
  • PHP version 5 (with CURL and GD support)
  • ftp access
